Good game mechanics. If you like story-based games you would enjoy this game.. Note: This review will be edited to reflect the (as of 5\/31\/19) unreleased final DLC for Season Pass holders.Having recently finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider to 100% achievement completion and given myself a few days to sit on my thoughts for this review, I feel comfortable enough to try and reflect fully on this conclusion to Lara Croft's origin story. This being billed as the game where you finally "become the Tomb Raider" put expectations extremely high (seriously, we've been waiting five years for this!). And while I can wholeheartedly recommend this game, for both diehard reboot-Tomb Raider fans and those who just want a solidly fun action-adventure romp that will show off the great potential of their shiny new graphics card, I'm not sure Eidos Montr\u00e9al and Crystal Dynamics truly hit their mark here. Let me explain, starting with what I can absolutely praise Shadow of the Tomb Raider for, starting with (as always with this reboot series, it seems-): Camilla Luddington's voice work. She is a tour de force here, bringing such nuance and layering to Lara that we just really haven't seen before. Luddington has had some beautiful moments in Rise, but here, with Shadow, her performance is just captivating from beginning to end. Just as we are stepping into the shoes of a much more experienced and practiced Lara, she reflects this with a measured vocal presence, from start to finish. Earl Baylon (who returns as Lara's friend Jonah Maiav) also does extremely well in his supporting role, with their chemistry making for the most gripping of prologue scenes I've ever witnessed in the Tomb Raider trilogy. Scenes like the one I've mentioned are plentiful, which brings me to another thing I can commend Shadow for: its commitment to telling an emotionally charged story.Even from the outset, you can just tell something is different about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, from the developer's opening statement, to a much slower prologue than what we've had previously before our story begins proper. What this does is allows for more moments centered on the characters than ever before, which gives us some great time with our favorite heroine and the people that surround her. While you'll still find the usual action set-pieces, interspersed with them are these great quieter moments of reflection between characters. In fact, my complaints with Tomb Raider (2013), in which I said that aside from Lara, none of the characters felt memorable, thankfully do not apply here. I can remember all of the major players by name, and I believe that is owed to the fact that each of them got the screen time that they deserved. I truly felt like I was going on a journey where the stakes were high, and the outcome truly mattered. It's a shame, then, that its climax was not realized fully. I really don't know what happened with Shadow of the Tomb Raider's third act. While playing on Deadly Obsession difficulty (and therefore playing the same final section over and over), I realized just how flat the final confrontation falls. Without spoiling anything, I can say that after five years of buildup to this moment, it just wasn't as epic and satisfying as I think we deserved. It's... fine, I guess? But I really feel like a much better conclusion (with a deservedly larger scope) could have been had.The game itself runs at about 14 hours, with each of the seven DLC adding on about an hour to that time. Combat is a finely tuned machine of stealth and all-out offensive, with traversal being a highlight and a joy to experience. It's hard to go back to the previous games after knowing all the tricks Lara has up her sleeve for her final outing. While you'll still have moments where you could have sworn you timed that quick-time event just right, there is much less room for error here and gameplay feels much more forgiving in that respect. You can also tune elements (such as holding as opposed to repeatedly pressing) for ease of access in Shadow's moment-to-moment gameplay, as well as individually change difficulty settings for combat, exploration, and puzzles. Graphically, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just an absolute marvel, with sweeping vistas, imposing caverns and incredible interior lighting. There's even a certain place in the story that just feels like a tech-demo for dust particles! The devs have done such beautiful work here, and while I miss the colder climates that Rise presented, this take on Central America is truly impressive as well. Also available is a fairly robust photo mode, complete with poses and filters, where you can spend hours on end lining up the perfect shot, or just taking in the beautiful sights.https:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/sharedfiles\/filedetails\/?id=1651933763While Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't quite give the conclusion I was hoping for, it's still a great ending to Lara's origins. Maybe pick it up on sale if you just want a flashy new AAA game to add to your collection. The journey itself is absolutely worth a buy if you consider yourself a fan of the reboot series.. Yet another masterpiece by square Enix. After playing TR 2013 and rise, I got a feeling that the franchise is getting well developed one after another. Here is what I feel about this game: Improvements :1. SOTTR is definitely among one of the first games that take the full advantage of Direct X 12 and real time ray tracing technology. Playing on 1440p monitor with RTX 2070, which enables a high ray traced shadow preset and ultra graphics setting, there is no way to not appreciate the level of visual details. Zoom in in the photographer mode, and you will find out how detailed the texture and model is.2. The water quality, both surface reflection and underwater effects, are absolutely amazing. I was blown away the first time I see that in game. It sometimes makes me wonder why there are so many underwater portions in the game. Figured that they need to showoff how good it is.3. Enough for the graphics, let's talk about the combat system: F1 F2 F3 F4 button are mapped with herbs like Witcher potions. Simple but effective. They were not in the previous gens, which is quite innovative. The traps and the venom arrows are real fun here. Screw the enemy pretty bad. I literally lol when I see enemies shooting at their friends, dang.4.Nice to have all the previous gens outfits. You even got TR 13 Lara, even the... pixel one for... hardcore players.5. The merchandise system is now well developed, which means you can control your resources more efficiently.Downside:1. The game need a better optimization!!! DX11 is basically unplayable while DX12 push CPU way to hard in the city area. Games with more NPCs like Assassin Creed have a lot better optimization. The game is rendering way too many stuffs. The GPU load is quite high even in the letter examination screen2. I wish there could be a mini map. Navigating in major cities is really boring and painful. I had to check map once every 30 sec and rush the collectibles and side quests just to get out of the town.3. Why NPCs looks all the same? And they doesn't look alive. I literally just picked a side quest form a guy and saw a merchant with the same face somewhere else... Story breaking...4. Multiple NPCs yelling something in Paititi over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!Merchant don't have to repeat the same thing every time I have a good sold, because I have to hear them 20 times when I need to sell all my crap.5. I don't have anything else about downside other than me firing 80+ bullets with an assault rifle trying to hunt an Empress Jaguar. I feel its pain alright. Thanks for reading my review. I know they are trying to make a open world game, but number of NPCs doesn't make much difference. It's all about quality. If Square Enix is seeing this, thank you for bring a such beautiful game to us, and you got my cheers and advice!. Very short, a lot of weapons but enemies are very sparse, story feels rushed, parkour isn't nearly as satisfying as in previous ones, tombs and puzzles are ez, the wholke game feels incomplete. I played it for 3 hours and the game already shows me "50% complete". Craftig and upgrading is weird, alternative outfits are piles of sh*t.. I played it for 3 hours and the game already shows me "50% complete". Craftig and upgrading is weird, alternative outfits are piles of sh*t.. its by far the worst of the 3 games. game doesn't load properly. sound, no picture. black screen. I was a fan of Rise of the Tomb Raider. The previous installment was fun and entertaining. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is none of those. It's boring as hell, the atmosphere feels bland and generic, the story sucks donkey balls, and there are barely any enemies in the game. What is the point of giving us guns, if there is nothing to shoot?! Somehow, this game manages to do less than the previous titles, despite it being a sequel. I honestly regret buying this game, even at a discounted price. For anyone interested in this title, I would recommend the previous installment, Rise of the Tomb Raider, over this. This game isn't even worth playing in my honest opinion.. I was a lil dissapointed in the rise of tomb raider but tbh this game improved alot more than ppl think like the experience and world of the game was so much more diversed and graphics were so on point it was such a serreal experience for me than the games before and the combat style felt alot better for some reason tho i wish they added something like the baba yaga DLC cus i rly rly enjoyed the DLC more than anything in the first and second games of tomb raider ,and i felt like we finally met lara on more of a personal and emotional level it rly did hit me especially in that break down scene she had . but also the storyline is kinda repetitive which i get why ppl found it a lil boring ? tho thats lara's life thats what she does so they cant change the plot wholesome tho as i said before they added a better emotional experience and more sneak into her past life and lara was acting more of a human being rather than this basic tough dull video games characters we mostly see and i guess there was some tiny lil glitches if you wanna call it that but nothing big i had no problem playing the game easily on a hard mode its so easy to move past those and getting used to the controls more, well also the tombs were a lil easier than the ones before especially that i had no hints solving them they warent that brilliant or a gud upgrade than the series before.ok i will shut up now bye <3 Demo is available for download!: Hello, everyone.
